Benefit basics for advisers in Scotland

You do not need to be a benefit expert to make a difference. This course is for anyone working with people on low incomes or with additional needs.
You will learn the basics of social security and be able to identify which benefits are available to the people you work with. You will understand the key life events that can have an impact on benefit entitlement and recognise when someone should make a new claim or report a change in circumstances.
The course covers:
• The UK and Scottish social security systems
• Universal credit basics
• Disability and carers’ benefits in the UK and Scotland
• Knowing who can help
This course is aimed at advisers and support workers with no knowledge of benefits.
This 'one-day equivalent' introductory level course will be delivered online over two mornings as follows;

10.00 - 11.15 training session delivered via Zoom
11.15 - 11.45 break
11.45 - 1.00 training session delivered via Zoom
5 November 2020
Repeat of day 1 schedule
This is a practical course, delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone. Participants will receive an email link, a few days before the start of the course, to allow access to the event.
