SCVO
This event is in the past
This online course provides the next step for managers looking to develop their skill and gain professional recognition to aid future career development. The course covers information based decision making and managing team performance giving managers a rounded skills set and providing a foundation to work towards the diploma and Chartered Manager status.
Participants will be guided through a workbook in Management and Leadership, with additional support from the trainer throughout, to translate your learning and experience into tangible evidence of your leadership skills.
For the duration of your studies participants will have access to Management Direct, which is a learning platform designed for managers and business leaders. Whether you are a manager focused on professional development, or part of a senior management team wishing to empower staff this learning hub allows you to take your own learning journey, enriching your training experience through a variety of online resources and educational tools.
Course overviewIn partnership, SCVO and Challenges Catalyst offer a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 5 (Equivalent to SCQF Level 8) certificate in Management and Leadership qualification to SCVO member organisations and the voluntary sector.
This online course will be delivered via Zoom and consists of four core sessions and two review session:
- module 1: 1 and 2 September, 10 am - 12.30 pm - Leadership and management principles
- module 2: 8 and 9 September, 10 am - 12.30 pm - The key to managing your team
- review days: 6 and 7 October, 10 am - 12 noon - Knowledge sharing and assignment review
The aim of the course is to build participants’ skills in management and leadership during and beyond a crisis situation, providing a space to discuss current practice and issues and learn from these. Participants will work towards a Level 5 certificate in Management and Leadership through CMI accredited training (Equivalent to SCQF Level 8).
As it is an accredited course it relies on self-led learning and learners can expect a significant amount of pre-course work and post course tasks, which reflect the level of accreditation:
- 4,000 word assignments x 2
- 128 total unit time (TUT), which is based on classroom time, your daily workload and job role, and time taken to write the assessments. This TUT is very much dependent on experience and familiarity with the content and also includes the training time and previous experience, for example, someone who has not come across the theory will have to spend much longer learning and understanding the topics.
The course is aimed at those who have some experience managing people and leading teams but wish to improve and consolidate these skills. It is a good next step following our Managing and Supervising People course, though previous attendance on that course is not required. The course is geared to those working in voluntary organisations and charities.
