Groups that help women with drug and alcohol abuse issues or use sport to engage vulnerable women are being invited to apply

Grants of at least £1 million are available for women’s charities in the latest round of the tampon tax fund.

Tracey Crouch, the minister for civil society, said the fund was making a total of £15m available to charities that support women's mental health and wellbeing, as well as organisations that tackle violence against women and girls.

Groups that help women with drug and alcohol abuse issues or use sport to engage vulnerable women are also being invited to apply.

The Westminster government announced in the 2015 autumn statement that VAT on women’s sanitary products would be used to provide grant funding each year for women’s health and support charities.

Crouch said: "The tampon tax fund is already making a real difference to the lives of women and girls across the country. We are ensuring that the money generated from sanitary products continues to support good causes and address the serious issues that women of all ages face."

She also specifically welcomed applications for projects that support women and girls "across multiple regions" of the UK.

Applications are open until midnight on Sunday 28 January for projects delivered over either one or two years.
