BP warns their actions endanger safety

An oil rig being towed out to the north sea has been boarded by Greenpeace activists.

Two protesters boarded the BP-contracted semi-submersible rig Paul B Loyd Junior in the Cromarty Firth calling for an end to drilling new wells.

In response BP warned: “While we recognise the right for peaceful protest, the actions of this group are irresponsible and may put themselves and others unnecessarily at risk."

BP said it was working with the rig owner Transocean and the authorities to try to resolve the situation.

A Greenpeace actrivist called Jo said: “The government may be bent on draining the North Sea of every last drop of oil, but this clearly contradicts their climate commitments. The perverse idea we must maximise our oil and gas reserves cannot continue.

"That means the government must seriously reform the Oil & Gas Authority and instead invest heavily in the crucial work of helping oil communities like those in Scotland move from fossil fuels to the industries that will power our low carbon future."

It is not yet known how the activists managed to board the vessel.

These people clearly do not care about the safety of others who will probably have to remove them. Why they think that annoying people, putting others lives and livelihoods at risk is a positive action I have no idea but perhaps it a combination of egotism and self-righteousness
