The Institute of Fundraising Scotland is putting on a free event for fundraisers during Small Charities Week

The Institute of Fundraising (IoF) Scotland is holding an event in Edinburgh aimed at making life easier for sole fundraisers.

Its Sole Fundraiser's Afternoon takes place in Hayweight House on Friday, 19 June to coincide with Scotland’s first ever Small Charity Week from 15-20 June.

The free event, will include hints and tips for fundraisers working on their own as well as the opportunity to network, hear about others' experiences, and learn about what sector-specific support is available.

Speakers include Claire Murray of the Child Brain Injury Trust and Julie Christie of Parkhead CAB, who will be discussing the common challenges that sole fundraisers face in today’s fundraising environment

Ian Mathieson of Funding Scotland will be speaking about the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations' free funding finder.

The rewards of successful sole fundraising are immeasurable: get it right and your charity can continue delivering vital projects that you believe in

Jude Turbyne of the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator will be discussing how it can help small charities to fundraise effectively.

Scott Craig of Scott Moncrieff and Gavin McEwan of Turcan and Connell will explore the elements of Scottish tax and charity law important to Scottish fundraisers.

Claire Murray, fundraising officer (Scotland) at Child Brain Injury Trust, said: “Sole fundraisers are in a unique position – they get to explore the many different types of fundraising, deciding which work best for their own charity.

“There are undoubtedly challenges to having such a varied workload though, and it can be a lot of responsibility.

“Therefore, it’s great to get support from the institute at events such as this and I’m so happy to have been invited to speak. The rewards of successful sole fundraising are immeasurable: get it right and your charity can continue delivering vital projects that you believe in.”

Fraser Hudghton, national manager of the Institute of Fundraising Scotland, added: “Small charities are the backbone of the voluntary sector in Scotland.

“Without small charities and their vital fundraising activities, life changing services to those Scots most in need would be missing.

“That is why at IoF Scotland we are delighted to hold this sole fundraising themed afternoon as part of Small Charity Week.

“It is an opportunity to engage with the public beyond our usual audience, in addition to providing valuable hints and tips for our hard working fundraising community in Scotland.”
