Over 500 bids were made on 170 pieces at Rock Trust sale

An auction of postcard art has raised over £10,000 for Edinburgh charity the Rock Trust.

Over 500 bids were placed on 170 pieces which were on display and up for sale at Edinburgh’s Summerhall.

The biennial art event is one of the Rock Trust’s most important fundraising events of the year, with this year’s highest bid of £353 being made on David Forster’s When darkness came he saw a light – Warriston (pictured).

Katriona Harding, The Rock Trust’s fundraising and events coordinator, said the success of the sale was vital to the charity.

“Demand for our services is increasing while we face funding cuts that make it much harder to provide them," she said.

“These essential funds will help us provide services for some of the most disadvantaged young people in Edinburgh and the Lothians, helping us to advise, educate and support young homeless people.

“We want to enable them to build the personal skills and resources required to make a positive and healthy transition to adulthood, while avoiding or moving on from homelessness.”

Following the postcard exhibition the Rock Trust is now working on its next fundraising event – the End Youth Homelessness sponsored Sleep Out event which is due to take place in Edinburgh on Friday, 6 November 2015.
