Up to 50 staff from Save the Children were thought to have been in its Jalalabad offices when gunmen entered

Attackers have stormed a charity’s offices in the Afghan city of Jalalabad.

The Save the Children headquarters have been attacked by gunmen, who are believed to have started the attack with a car bomb.

Around 50 staff are understood to have been inside the building at the time of the attack, with early reports suggesting at least 11 have been injured.

A Save the Children spokesperson said: “Our primary concern is for the safety and security of our staff.

"We are awaiting further information from our team and cannot comment further at this time."

The charity has been working in Afghanistan for more than 40 years, providing support to over 700,000 children.

No organisation has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
