Baby Bank Scotland in appeal for public support

This news post is almost 2 years old

The charity has said it helps thousands of children but is facing huge financial pressures.

A Lanarkshire-based charity has launched an online appeal for financial support from the public as it struggles with the rising cost of rent and utilities.

Baby Bank Scotland, based in Hamilton, supports families living in poverty by appealing to the local community to donate items they no longer use in order for us to pass on to those in need.

Those behind the charity have said they are struggling “emotionally and physically” to keep services running, following a flood which destroyed their existing premises last year.

The charity previously operated out of the North Stand at Hamilton Academical’s stadium in the town, but a burst pipe meant that significant amounts of their goods had been damaged and the site was unusable.

They are now looking for new premises while it works from temporary premises nearby, but has warned that the costs of rent are prohibitive.

In a statement posted on social media, the team wrote: “The wee Baby Bank Team, are struggling emotionally and physically to keep the service going, we have seen a few premises which are more than double what we have been paying, if you can please join our 100 club  we only have 70 just now.

“Last year we helped 1,375 babies to teenagers, please consider joining if you can (no pressure we know many people are struggling) we are all volunteers and the money is used to enable us to pay rent, utilities etc.

“Thank you to all our members, our new members and anyone thinking of joining. I will be in touch or post all the numbers before the draw on 28th of February, please share with your family, friends, and work colleagues. All welcome, the more the better.”
