The social care charity is appealing for help in spreading a little Christmas cheer

Quarriers has launched its Box of Hope Appeal which aims to help homeless youngsters this winter.

The social care charity is appealing for help in spreading a little Christmas cheer through a donation of a Box of Hope containing essentials for winter and is aiming to provide a box for every young person who will spend Christmas at one of Quarriers’ homeless services in Glasgow and the west.

It also hopes to raise awareness of the difficulties faced by some of society’s most vulnerable and isolated people as a Box of Hope could be the only gift a young person receives this Christmas.

There are three Boxes of Hope available to help to spread festive cheer.

These include a £10 starter box which is given to a young person when they arrive at the service containing basic winter essentials such as toothpaste, bread and coffee, a £20 box with socks, gloves, a hot water bottle, an electricity card and food voucher and a £50 box containing a kettle, toaster, mugs and cutlery to support young people to move on to their own tenancy.

Alice Harper, chief executive of Quarriers, said: “For many, Christmas can be an especially trying time of year. There is so much focus on spending time with loved ones and the giving and receiving of presents and for many, this brings their circumstances into even starker contrast.

“To be a young person facing homelessness at any time of year, but particularly at Christmas, is challenging. Many feel they have nowhere to turn to and no one to rely on but this is where Quarriers comes in.

“Thanks to donations from generous individuals our staff are able to bring some festive cheer into these youngsters’ lives by providing them with a safe place to stay, food, warmth and some basic possessions.

“Our Box of Hope appeal is vital as it gives young people who have had a hard start in life some joy and most importantly, some hope towards a brighter future.”
