Campaigners will march on Holyrood to demand a final vote on the Brexit deal
Campaigners for a fair Brexit deal for Scotland are to gather in protest in Edinburgh this weekend.
The demonstration on Saturday 24 March will mark a year since the triggering of article 50 to leave the European Union, which took place on 29 March 2017.
It will see campaigners from the European Movement in Scotland march down the city’s Royal Mile before speeches outside the Scottish Parliament from Patrick Harvie MSP, Joanna Cherry MP, Catherine Stihler MEP and Dr Mike Galsworthy (Scientists for EU).
Vanessa Glynn, chair of the European Movement in Scotland said: “Every week, a new reason for Britain to be in the EU emerges. The recent events in Salisbury are one example: it was our EU partners who stood up for Britain, while the United States proved an unresponsive partner. In an ever colder world, it would be ludicrous to turn our backs on our best friends. We belong in the European family, and we stand ready to show it.”
The demonstration will call for a final parliamentary vote on whether to accept the Brexit deal that the UK Government negotiates with other EU members.
Juuso Järviniemi, president of Young European Movement UK, said: “The Brexit deal will be Britain’s most significant international agreement in living memory. A pig in the poke is no basis for that. It is entirely justified to ask the people what they think of the deal. Democracy did not cease in 2016”.
