A series of conversations with key thinkers will investigate ways to rebuild society post-Covid

Third sector and civil society leaders are to take part in a series of online events examining “big ideas” on how to reshape society.

Under the banner of Our World Reimagined: big ideas for a better future (OWR), the sessions will see key thinkers discuss innovative visions to build back better post-Covid.

Organisers Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector (GCVS) say the tone will be conversational, with online audiences having the opportunity to interact with guests and provide their own perspectives.

The conversations will cover a range of topics, including community wealth building,

collaborative leadership, the wellbeing economy, asset based community development, the enabling state, gender equal economy, system design and the future of social care.

Hosted by journalist Pennie Taylor, the series of one-hour OWR conversations launches on Tuesday 1 September at 2pm with Neil McInroy, chief executive of the Manchester-based Centre for Local Economic Strategies, an organisation at the forefront of community wealth building.

Ian Bruce, GCVS chief executive, said: “Our World Reimagined will delve into big ideas with people who are behind some of the most exciting visions about reshaping society, improving lives and building back better post Covid-19.

“Community wealth building is a subject being debated and taken forward here in Scotland, made all the more urgent by the current pandemic and its huge economic impact. So we are delighted to welcome Neil McInroy to launch these OWR sessions with Pennie Taylor hosting the conversation.”

McInroy said: “We are living through a period of unprecedented change and challenge. In this there is a new ecological, economic and socially just world to forge and we need new and bold ideas. Community wealth building is a big idea with clear demonstrable actions and practice. It is already happening in dozens of areas and the challenge now is to grow and amplify.”

Future sessions will include contributions from Dr Katherine Trebeck of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance, Cormac Russell from Nurture Development, Scottish Government chief design officer Dr Cat Macaulay and Carnegie Trust UK chief executive Sarah Davidson, among others.

GCVS is inviting colleagues from across the third sector to get involved in the conversations, which will be held over Zoom and recorded for future circulation among a wider audience.
