Initiative will boost vital funds for carers' group
Cash from recycled cans is to be used to transform the lives of Scotland’s young carers.
Ace Recycling has partnered with Every Can Counts and the Carers Trust to launch Cans for Carers - a drinks cans recycling initiative aiming to raise money for young carers aged under 25 in Scotland.
For every tonne of cans collected through the initiative Ace will donate £25 to Carers Trust Scotland.
Meg Wright, director for Scotland and Ireland of the Carers Trust said: “This is a great campaign to raise awareness of the work of the Carers Trust and the challenges faced by young carers under the age of 25. Many of them combine study and work alongside their caring role.
“They may not have the money or time to take part in social events or access simple things like sports, recreation or even meeting their friends. Our aim is to support them and help them have a life out-with their caring role.”
Malcolm McArdle, managing director of Ace, said: “We wanted to draw attention to a charitable cause that is often overlooked and Ace is committed to developing projects like this to help the local community and those in need.”
Alloa-based Ace is responsible for recycling the majority of aluminium cans collected in Scotland handling over 200 tonnes every single month, equal to 13.5 million cans.
