The Scottish Living History Festival, organised by Archaeology Scotland, aims to promote an interest in Scotland's rich heritage

A celebration of archaeology in Scotland is set to take place this weekend.

Archaeology Scotland will be marking its 75th anniversary by hosting the Scottish Living History Festival at Callendar House in Falkirk.

The interactive and educational event will take place this Saturday (31 August) and is free for all to attend.

Archaeology Scotland hope the festival will promote further interest in Scotland’s rich heritage amongst visitors of all ages, whilst also encouraging people to visit their local museum and park.

The day-long festival will be opened by Provost of Falkirk, William Buchanan, and activities will range from period musicians, engaging talks from experts, ancient craft workshops, re-enactment groups, and guided walks. Special guests include Georgia Hirst of TV show Vikings, and Dr Stephen Harrison from the University of Glasgow, both of whom will be talking all things Vikings in a Q&A session.

To top it all off, Archaeology Scotland is also planning to create a replica Roman milestone, where participants can try their hand at stone-carving under expert supervision, which they are hoping will be a permanent legacy from the weekend’s events.
