Fourth annual Green Brigade collection will chime with club's official Christmas charity appeal
Celtic supporters are planning a foodbank collection to help poor families in Glasgow in the run up to Christmas.
The Green Brigade group is holding the food drive before a game against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday, 5 November at Parkhead.
This will be the fan group’s fourth consecutive Christmas foodbank collection.
It says it is acting in the charitable tradition of the club’s founder, Brother Walfrid.
We look forward to once again honouring Brother Walfrid's spirit by coming together and helping feed the poor and hungry in Scotland
In a statement, it said: "For the first two years, we were able to support many families in Glasgow's East End.
"As the success of the foodbank collection increased, it became apparent that due to the generosity of the Celtic support, we could actually send food all across the city.
"Subsequently, last year we were delighted to invite various foodbanks from all corners of Glasgow to bring a van and take crates of food back to their bases and feed those who needed it most as Christmas approached.
"This year, we will once again be hoping to help feed families from all over the city and will have various vans around Celtic Park from around noon right up until kick off at 3pm collecting food.
"We also collected cash donations from those who preferred to donate in this way and will once again have buckets at each collection point.
"We look forward to once again honouring Brother Walfrid's spirit by coming together and helping feed the poor and hungry in Scotland."
The Green Brigade’s efforts come on top of the Christmas appeal which is due to be launched by the Celtic FC Foundation.
In the past it has given cash to the likes of the Simon Community and Glasgow East Women's Aid.
This year it is expected that money will be donated to the Scottish Action for Refugees.
