GAMH will join lobby against council cuts
Staff and service users of a closure threatened charity will join others in opposing council cuts this week.
The Glasgow Association for Mental Health (GAMH) will join trade unionists in a lobby opposing cost-cutting to vital services ad Glasgow City Council sets its budget for this year.
GAMH faces closure after Labour councillors controversially voted to slash its funding by 40%.
It says this level of cut could make it unsustainable, jeopardising the work the charity does among some of Glasgow’s most vulnerable people.
Trade union Unison is looking at a legal challenge to the move and GAMH workers and service users will join others on Thursday arguing against cuts.
A Unison spokesperson said: “GAMH staff will be there with our heads and banners held high. We’re going to fight this all the way and will support other groups who find themselves in the same position.”
As well as Unison, trade unions Unite, EIS and GMB are backing the lobby at the City Chambers, George Square, at 12.30pm on Thursday, 19 February.
