Actor Paul Brannigan has denied being involved in the production of cannabis

A BAFTA-winning actor who has supported a range of charities working with young people is to stand trial on a charge of producing cannabis.

The case of Paul Brannigan, 31, called at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday, where not guilty pleas to producing cannabis and being in possession of the drug at his home in Barrowfield, Glasgow, on 23 May were issued.

A trial was set for March of next year. Brannigan came to fame when he starred in the Ken Loach film Angels' Share, and scooped a Scottish BAFTA for his performance. He spoke earlier this year of his support for the charity Street Cones, which works with young people in Glasgow. He is also a longstanding supporter of Aberlour Child Care Trust.
