English charity regulator seeks new chief executive

The high profile role as chief executive of the Charity Commission commands a £130,000 annual salary

England and Wales’s charity regulator is looking for a new chief executive.

Paula Sussex’s three-year term with the Charity Commission comes to an end in June 2017 and she has not sought an extension, it has been announced.

The post was advertised in national newspapers and applications are being handled by a recruitment agency.

William Shawcross, chair of the commission, said: "There has never been a more exciting time to take this role, and we are looking for an exceptional person who will make the most of the opportunity.

"This is a high-profile position which requires a record of successful senior leadership and managing technology-enabled change in a complex environment.

"First class communication skills, strong financial acumen and drive are also essential together with the commitment, credibility and authority needed for this nationally important role.”

The salary for the role is listed as around £130,000 and the deadline for applications is 5pm on 6 February.

The process will be chaired by a civil service commissioner, Jan Cameron and the selection panel will include of Shawcross, Eryl Besse, deputy chair of the commission and external members.

Final interviews are expected to take place on 15 March.
