The Byte Night event has raised £80,000 for Action for Children
A charity sleep out has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity.
More than 200 representatives from Scotland’s business and IT sector spent Friday (6 October) night under the stars to raise money to support Action for Children’s efforts to tackle youth homelessness.
Companies including Harvey Nash, Scottish Power, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Edinburgh Airport, Morgan Stanley and Vodafone bedded down for the night in Charlotte Square Gardens in Edinburgh and Blythswood Square in Glasgow.
Byte Night is a fundraiser for Action for Children and is celebrating its 10th year in Scotland. Since 2008, the event has raised almost £700,000 to support the work of the children’s charity and this year’s Scottish event amassed £80,000.
Paul Carberry, director of Action for Children in Scotland, said: “We are really proud that Byte Night Scotland is celebrating its 10th anniversary and that we also hosted a sleep out in Glasgow for the first time.
“Byte Night makes a big difference to the young people we support. For those sleeping out, they were able to return to a warm bed the next morning. Sadly, for many young Scots that simply isn’t the case and that is what drives so many of our supporters to spend the night under the stars raising money to support our work.
“In Glasgow and the surrounding area, Action for Children Scotland run a number of services which support young people who are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and it is inspiring that so many people signed up to play their part in raising money to support our valuable work.”
