Minds Matter has teamed up with Santander as it aims to embrace new technology for fundraising

A charity has teamed up with a banking giant to trial contactless donations.

With less people using hard cash than ever before, many charities fear that collection tins are becoming outdated and are looking at ways of using new technology to fundraise.

Minds Matter, the retail arm of the national charity Mind, is piloting contactless donation terminals in 10 of its shops around the UK to bolster donations.

The terminals have been provided by Santander with the year-long trial having kicked off last month.

Research has shown that two out of five adults admit they give less to charity now as they do not carry as much cash, and the average contactless donation is three times higher than for cash collection tins.

Amanda Day, of Minds Matter, said: “Technology, digital solutions and new payment processes will continue to have an impact on the sector so it is vital that charities adapt and evolve, and work with partners that can help us capitalise on these trends.”
