Beatson Cancer Charity is looking for workers to take part whether they are in the office or at home
A not so mellow festival of yellow will be shining across Glasgow and the West as big hearted fundraisers adorned in everything from lemon to acid yellow brighten up their workplaces – whether you’ve returned to work or still working from home.
On Turn it Yellow Day, set to take part on Thursday 29 April, Beatson Cancer Charity is encouraging flaxen-clad fundraisers and canary-draped charity champions to turn them or their workplaces yellow.
Fundraisers can also share their pics with the hashtags #turnityellow and #seethedifference for a social media shoutout or even tell the Beatson they will be taking part by emailing fundraising@beatsoncancercharity.org or calling 0141 212 0505 to receive a fundraising pack.
Beatson Turn it Yellow day is championing efforts involving yellow as it is the colour of joy, hope, optimism, and happiness, something we intend to inspire in both fundraisers and patients of the Beatson alike. The day comes as part of Beatson Cancer Charity’s new campaign, See the Difference, working closely with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to raise £100,000 to fund a new MRI scanner as well as covering the recruitment, training and salary costs of specialist staff posts.
Bold yellow-wearing fundraisers can text 70450 to donate a £10 or offices can go online to donate an amount of their choosing.
The new MRI scanner, which will be the first of its kind in Scotland, will help improve the outcomes of 20,000 people with cancer over the next 10 years. It will also be crucial for the Beatson as it will support treatment for children and adults who are living with cancer. The new scanner will also reduce the number of radiotherapy treatments for some patients by giving the Beatson’s wonderful staff the ability to adapt the daily doses, potentially making their treatment more manageable.
Ethne McPherson, head of therapeutic radiography at The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, said: “This MRI scanner allows us to visualise and outline tumours at a whole new level. Words cannot describe how valuable this is to future radiotherapy planning and treatment.
“It is such a fun idea to get everyone out in bold, beautiful yellow! I’ll keep my eyes peeled on the wards and in the town to see if people are dressed up like me.
“Each pound raised by people having a bit of fun does more good than you think. We’re really excited about this new scanner and to have fun getting the money together for it is great.”
The scanner will directly improve the outcomes of those suffering from brain cancer, prostate cancer, spinal cancers and gynaecological cancers among others, all the while opening doors to further research and increasing the Beatson’s ability to undertake clinical trials.
Martin Cawley, chief executive of Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “By helping to fund our MRI appeal, you will be giving hope to thousands of patients dealing with a cancer diagnosis - this year and beyond.
“We always want to encourage fundraising as a fun and engaging way to bring communities together around their cancer centre, because it is them we serve at the end of the day.
“I’ll certainly be donning whatever yellow I can find for this special day.”
Alongside the life-enhancing MRI scanner, you can help Beatson Cancer Charity fund a brand new, warm and inviting MRI waiting area. It is hoped that this waiting area will create the same comfortable and relaxing feeling people get when they walk into the much- loved wellbeing centre.
Bella the Bee said: “The whole Beatson fundraising team are buzzing about Turn It Yellow Day and we can’t wait to see all your pics!”
