Christian Aid income drops

Mixed results for Christian Aid as fundraising week disappoints - but Christmas appeal is a winner.

Christian Aid has recorded a drop in its income by 4% in the space of a year.

The charity’s latest annual report reveals that its yearly income was £99.9 million in the year to 31 March last year, down from £103.6m in the previous financial year.

One contributor to this revenue decline was a fall in income from its high profile Christian Aid Week – which fell by £600,000 on the previous year to £11.1m.

There was also a 4% decrease in overall donations.

However, the fall was partially offset by the success of the charity’s Christmas appeal, which brought in £3.5m, £2.1m more than the previous year.

Loretta Minghella, chief executive, said: "Despite the record-breaking success of the Christmas appeal, the enormous generosity of our supporters and our continuing track record in securing and successfully completing large-scale government-funded contracts, our income was less than we had planned for, particularly from Christian Aid Week.

"We are beginning to implement new approaches now, as we learn from the success of our Christmas appeal, and with a focus on better use of digital communications."
