The Great Get Together sees events held across the country to bring communities together
Events to remember the life of Jo Cox in Scotland are set to be expanded this year.
The Great Get Together was held last year to mark the legacy of the former Labour MP, who was murdered by an extremist almost two years ago.
And the event is set to return this summer, with Cox’s sister Kim Leadbeater meeting First Minister Nicola Sturgeon this week to discuss the plans.
The Great Get Together is due to take place between 22 and 24 June, with individuals and organisations encouraged to hold events that can bring communities together.
The Scottish Government has pledged its support to the initiative, and Glasgow and Edinburgh councils are also set to stage events in Scotland’s biggest cities.
Leadbeater said: “Right now, it can feel like our country is deeply divided. But we know that when we get together that brings out the best in our people and our communities.
“Last year we saw Great Get Together events take place all around the country, bringing together people from across Scotland’s diverse communities, and I can’t thank people enough for that.
“Those events were inspired by my sister Jo. She touched so many people when she said that we had more in common than the things that divide us.”
Those who are interested in holding an event can find out more on The Great Get Together website.
