The National Cyber Security Centre has released the Cyber Security: Small Charity Guide
Charities are being warned that they need to take action to prevent cyber attacks.
Experts have prepared the advice, which they say is simple and should not cost much to implement, as they believe that smaller organisations are at risk of being targeted by fraudsters.
A spokesman for the centre said: “Like businesses, charities are increasingly reliant on IT and technology and are falling victim to a range of malicious cyber activity. As the Charity Sector Threat Assessment illustrates, losing access to this technology, having funds stolen or suffering a data breach through a cyber attack can be devastating, both financially and reputationally.
“We want to help charities feel better-armed to face the challenges that come with such rapid technological advancement, and although we can't guarantee protection from all types of cyber attack, following the advice in the guide will significantly increase your protection from the most common types of cyber crime.”
