Protest against nuclear weapons system planned for next year
Opponents of nuclear weapons are planning a major demo against replacing Trident.
They want the UK government to scrap plans to spend more than £100 billion renewing the system.
The Westminster parliament will vote on this in 2016 – and there is already substantial opposition in Scotland to Trident, with both the Scottish National Party and the Scottish Labour Party opposing it.
Protestors will gather in London on Saturday 27 February, with the exact location yet to be made known.
Scottish CND activists are already publicising the event and organising transport.
A spokesperson said: “The majority of the British people, including the Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and other parliamentary party leaders, oppose nuclear weapons.
“They are weapons of mass destruction that can kill millions. They don't keep us safe and they divert resources from essential spending.
“Let's get message out loud and clear: we don't want Trident and we don't want a new Trident.”
