Kenny Murray will take on the newly-created role.

A Scottish charity that leads advocacy work on behalf of care experienced people in Scotland has announced the appointment of a new depute chief executive.

Who Cares? Scotland has confirmed that Kenny Murray, who previously served as director of engagement and influence at the charity, will take on the role from January 2024.

The charity said there had been a “competitive internal recruitment process”, with the role created to add strategic capacity to the organisation, in recognition of the opportunities and challenges which lie ahead.

The charity’s chief executive, Louise Hunter, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Kenny will be taking on this important role for Who Cares? Scotland.

“This is an exciting time for the organisation as we move into the 2nd year of our strategic plan ‘Our Voice, Our Community, Our Future’ with lots of opportunities ahead. But our care experienced members tell us that there are real challenges, particularly around keeping the promise.

“Kenny’s role will be key to ensuring we do everything we can to ensure a lifetime of equality, respect and love for care experienced people.”

Mr Murray added: “This is such an exciting moment in my career to be appointed to this role. I am honoured to continue the work I’ve done with Who Cares? Scotland for the past six years as well as move forward in new ways.

“I feel a great sense of responsibility taking on this role and I am ready to continue listening, growing and challenging in this new role.

“I am passionate about change for care experienced people and believe that we’ve never been in a time so ready for that change.”
