Scout leaders acted immediately resulting in eight being expelled from the event

Scouts Scotland has confirmed eight Scouts were sent home following a drug find at its annual jamboree last weekend.

The global gathering brings together 1,500 scouts and leaders in Blair Atholl, Perthshire, for 10 days of mountain biking, kayaking and climbing.

A spokesperson from Scouts Scotland said: “We can confirm that eight Scouts have been sent home from the Blair Atholl Jamborette.

“Scouts Scotland has a zero tolerance policy on narcotics use and this matter has been reported to Police Scotland.”

Police were called after a tip off, resulting in the Scouts being sent home.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We can confirm that officers attended an international scout event in Blair Atholl in response to a report of drug offences.

“After inquiries were conducted, a 17-year-old male was charged and given a recorded police warning for possession of controlled drugs, and a 16-year-old male was charged and is to be reported for supplying controlled drugs. The teenagers were sent home along with six other scouts.”

Called the Blair Atholl Jamborette, the event is the biggest of its kind and has been held every two years since 1946 in the grounds of Blair Castle.

Scouts aged between 14 and 17 from all over the world attend the event.
