There are just 500 places left for next week's 10k in Glasgow
Fitness fanatics are being offered a final chance to sign up for the Great Scottish Run.
With just a week to go, volunteers from Glasgow charity The Well Foundation came together to urge runners to register for this year’s Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run 10K before the final 500 places are snapped up.
Members of the organisation, which delivers a range of services to communities throughout Asia and Africa including access to safe, clean drinking water, called for people across the country to fill the final spaces in the race and raise vital funds for a cause close to their hearts.
The event, which last year raised £3.6m for hundreds of charities, will see over 30,000 runners of all ages and abilities take to the streets of Glasgow on Sunday 1 October. Just 500 places remain for the 10K, whilst places for the half marathon sold out in August.
The foundation’s Fahim Baqir said: “A huge team of 82 runners representing the Well Foundation will be taking on the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run next weekend to raise money for our projects.
“These include the installation of hand pumps and deep water wells in areas of Asia and Africa in need of access to safe drinking water; the provision of eye care clinics in Pakistan; the delivery of income generating programmes to help families in developing countries earn their own money through enterprise; and the provision of emergency aid and relief to people in war-torn areas such as Syria and Myanmar.”
Alex Jackson from organisers the Great Run Company, said: “As always, Scotland’s biggest weekend of running is shaping up to be a first-rate experience, raising money and awareness for hundreds of worthy causes whilst offering participants a one of a kind opportunity to run with elite athletes such as much loved Olympians Jo Pavey and Andrew Butchart.”
