Prestwick Academy pupils complete Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

A group of 11 Ayrshire pupils have become the first from a state school to complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award national 5 certificate.

The Prestwick Academy students have been awarded their leadership certificates after taking part in the programme.

To complete it the pupils were trained in administration, logistics, pupil mentoring and communication and had to get experience in each area by helping run the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award group at the school.

Alex Cumming, assistant director for Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scotland, said: “The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Scotland is delighted to see this first state school group complete their leadership certificate.

“These young people are an ambitious group. With the skills that they’ve learnt through the leadership programme I have no doubt they will go far with their future plans.

“They’re a credit to the dedication and commitment of their leaders at Prestwick Academy.”
