Free expert advice on governance, leadership and business for charities in Scotland

Pro bono support is being offered by UK-wide organisation

Pilotlight, which brings charities together with business and business experts, has opened a new round of free pro bono support for charities in Scotland.

It is offering a range of programmes to charities across 2025 - a free package of support worth up to an estimated £5,000.

This support is designed to help charities “amplify their impact by connecting them with business experts to help find solutions to their toughest challenges.”

Its website explains how pro bono support can help charities: “Larger non-profits are often able to employ people with specialist skills, but it is an old adage that leaders of smaller charities have to be Jack or Jill ‘of all trades’, turning their attention to a wide range of issues, from managing staff and volunteers, running operations, analysing data, building relationships and fundraising. It is hard to be good at all these different tasks.

“Skilled pro bono volunteers provide these organisations with access to expertise that may be financially out of reach, helping them operate more efficiently and effectively in pursuit of their missions.

“It is a huge strength of the charity model that volunteers can bring expertise that a charity may not be able to pay for. This is where skilled volunteering has a unique role to play – where people give their time and expertise to the public good rather than, or in addition to their money.”

Application deadline is 5pm Friday 4 October.
