Name change move made for greater clarity among sector and public
A UK fundraising body is to drop the word regulation from its name to provide extra clarity for the public as well as the sector.
The Public Fundraising Regulatory Association from September will become the Public Fundraising Association but will still be known by the acronym PFRA, it said.
By way of explanation, the body said it had become a “strong, widely recognised brand” and that the four letter acronym would remain.
All changes will be cosmetic, the organisation said, and it will continue to carry out all the functions it currently undertakes.
Peter Hills-Jones, chief executive of the PFRA, said: "By dropping "regulatory" from our name, our aim is to ensure there is no room for confusion about who we are, who we represent or what we do.
"During our consultation with both charities and agencies, it became increasingly clear that compliance is something our members want delivered jointly by ourselves and the Institute of Fundraising, with regulation overseen separately by an effective and truly independent body.
"This name change provides a step in the right direction toward some much needed clarity."
