Community Jobs Scotland to fund 700 jobs

Cash is available which will allow charities to recruit young people and create new jobs.

Community Jobs Scotland (CJS), the leading third sector jobs creation programme, is inviting charities to register to receive funding to create positions within their organisation.

Now into its seventh year, the CJS programme is run by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) and supported by the Scottish Government. It has created more than 7,600 jobs in charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises across the length and breadth of Scotland.

This time around a total of 700 funded opportunities will be created for unemployed young people aged 16 to 29.

The jobs can be placed in any part of Scotland’s third sector and organisers are particularly keen to engage charities working in sports, leisure, arts and culture, as well as housing associations and community development trusts.

The jobs enable charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises to increase capacity, while giving a potentially life-changing opportunity to people who are most disadvantaged in the labour market, including the disabled, care experienced young people, carers, armed forces early service leavers and young people with convictions.

Donna Mackinnon, SCVO’s director of employment services, said: “Each CJS job generates a variety of socio-economic benefits, while making a positive impact on individuals, communities and wider society.”

Employers who have previously registered do not have to complete a new registration.
