A special event which aims to get community-minded people together from all sectors of the community working together will take place next month
An event aimed at fuelling creativity within communities will take place next month.
Eden Project Communities Scotland team is bringing community-minded people together from all sectors of the community, inviting them to explore creativity.
The day will focus on working together to look at the role creativity can play in all our communities and how we can use it to have a greater influence on shaping the things that matter. The event on Saturday 2 November is open to individuals from all sectors and walks of life.
Hosted at the Botanic Cottage in Edinburgh’s Botanic Gardens, the event titled Creating Change, promises to be an energetic day for community-minded people who have or want to have a more active role in their local communities. Participants will enjoy a whole day of inspiration and workshops in the gorgeous surroundings exploring how creativity can be a vital asset in solving problems and discovering opportunities in their communities. There will be time to reflect on the day and an opportunity for participants to make new connections.
Katie Swann, community network developer at Eden Project Communities, said: “We’re really looking forward to bringing people together this November around the theme of creativity and communities, a topic which is close to our hearts. There’ll be workshops, inspirational talks and plenty of chances to connect with others. Our aim is that it will be a relaxed, fun, inspiring and useful day in a stunning location, and of course that everyone goes home feeling energised and full of ideas!”
Eden Project Communities supports and encourages people to take positive actions that strengthen local connections and build stronger communities tackling local issues that matter to them most.
Mick Vine has been part of Eden Project Communities network in Scotland since he was first part of the Big Lunch Community Walk in May this year. He has since held a Big Lunch at his community garden in Dundee and recently attended one of the fully funded Community Camps held at Eden in Cornwall.
He said: “To work with Eden Project Communities is an honour. The people are friendly and really know their stuff. It's fantastic the way they focus on communities and getting people back to helping each-other in what are becoming difficult times.”
The event is on Saturday 2 November 2019 from 10.30am to 5pm, with an optional social evening off-site at a community project from 6pm to 9pm. It is free and to book visit Eventbrite and search Scotland Autumn Gathering: Creating Change or call Katie Swann on 07889 321270 for more details.
In addition to offering creative inspiration, the team at Eden Project Communities hope it will encourage participation in The Big Lunch and that it creates lasting and fruitful connections for all participants.
The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project made possible by the National Lottery Community Fund, designed to inspire people to take a small step that can make a big difference.
