The Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre has warned of a recent loss of funding.

A charity-run community centre in Glasgow East End has announced it will close its doors at the end of March amid a funding crisis.

The Reidvale Centre confirmed at the weekend that it will cease operations on March 31 due to a “recent drop in funding”.

The charity said that they are hopeful that this closure will be for a short period, but that the charity will be “dormant” under future funding can be found.

Confirming the news on social media, the charity said: “It is with heartfelt and deepest regret that we have to inform you that the Neighbourhood Centre are having to close due to a recent drop in funding.

“The date of our closure will be 31st March 2023. Our closure is hopefully for a short period of time and our charity will be dormant until future funding is found.”

The Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre, previously known as the South Dennistoun Neighbourhood Centre, was formed in 1977 by a number of local groups who took over an empty building, dating back from the late Victorian era, and provided appropriate accommodation and activities for local people.

The new centre was opened following work which began in 2003.

Local councillor Allan Casey wrote on social media: “We are all shocked and saddened to hear that the Reidvale Neighbourhood centre is closing.

“The centre has been a vital part of the Dennistoun community as well as serving the wider area for decades.

“We have already reached out to the centre and service users to offer our support and to assist them any way we can.

“We hope that a solution can be found to keep this facility at the heart of the community.”
