Players at amateur side GHK Rugby Football Club are doing the full monty for a charity calendar

Move over Calendar Girls there is a new group of naked fundraisers in town and this lot has balls instead of baps.

Cashing in on the naked calendar phenomenon made famous by the Rylstone Women's Institute (WI) who raised £2 million for leukaemia research in 1999 and spawned a hit movie, the men from Glasgow’s GHK Rugby Club are going all out for Breast Cancer Care, rugby charity Hearts and Balls, and the Beatson Cancer charity.

Where the WI used home-baking among other objects to cover up their naughty bits the National League Division 2 side has opted for rugby balls and equipment instead.

The full calendar has yet to be shot but judging by our preview picture there will be a scrum of people who will try to buy a copy or two.

GHK captain Hugh Parker, who also revealed the team plan to wear pink socks at their next match on Friday night – which kicks off at 7.30pm in Old Anniesland – to promote Breast Cancer Care, told TFN: “We have identified these charities as they are three close to our heart for a number of reasons.

“There’s a great community at the club and we can use that to raise money for people who need it most.

“Hopefully we’ll have a big crowd down on Friday night, all looking pretty in pink!

“It will be a busy weekend as we’ll be shooting our naked calendar. A win will help us all feel a little better about embarrassing ourselves.”
