Govan wins Men's Shed of the Year

Prestigious award goes to southside charity

Men's Shed Govan has won Scottish Men's Shed of the Year Award. the was formed in 2017 

The charity was created in 2017 to provide a place for retired, unemployed or unfit-for-work men to have a focus and purpose again. 

Winners were decided via a public vote. Voting opened at the start of October and closed on 30 October. 

Sarah Everett, 54, funding manager of Men’s Shed Govan, they were "thrilled to bits" with the news. 

She said: "We are absolutely delighted and just so pleased. 

"The guys are over the moon." 

"There are sheds that have been around a lot longer than us, so I think we've done really well for being so young.

"We've worked so hard and done a lot of things this year within the community and it's just so great that it's being recognised." 

Over the last year, the men's shed installed defibrillators outside their base, turned an old nursery site into a community garden, and starting a ladies social club as part of the men's shed initiative. 

The charity group were one of three finalists for the award, alongside Inverurie & District Men’s Shed and Lanark Men’s Shed. 

Everett added: "We would like to thank everyone who voted for us, we really appreciate their support." 

Men’s Shed Govan is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am until 2pm.
