Grant Douglas, who helped to create the S'up Spoon, has been recognised for his work with the disabled

A social entrepreneur travelled to Buckingham Palace last week.

Edinburgh based Grant Douglas, who has cerebral palsy, shot to prominence after his his S’up Spoon won the prestigious international Blackwood’s Design Awards in 2015 and sales of his product went global.

Douglas teamed up with industrial designer Mark Penver, from 4c Design, to create an innovative spoon to help people with shaky hands from conditions such as cerebral palsy, essential tremor and Parkinson’s.

He was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours for services to disabled people and picked up his award at the Palace last week.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted to be recognised for the work I have been doing and the creation of the S’up spoon. I’m extremely grateful for all the support I have received in bringing my invention to disabled people around the globe.

“When I get feedback from people all over the world saying what a difference the spoon has made, it makes it all worthwhile.”
