Regulator will cease intervention in Glasgow housing association

Scotland’s Housing Regulator (SHR) has ended its intervention at Molendinar Park Housing Association saying the board is now addressing its governance issues.

The regulator appointed four members onto its board in March this year after Molendinar informed the SHR it was not constituted in accordance with its rules.

It was discovered the majority of trustees were not properly elected members and therefore could not make decisions on behalf of the association.

A report found that the situation had been "on-going for a significant period of time and... posed a serious and immediate risk to tenants’ interests."

It has since addressed the issue and now has a properly constituted governing body.

Christine MacLeod, SHR’s director of regulation, said: “Molendinar Park acted appropriately by reporting its governance failure to us when it became known and has worked openly with us to rectify this problem.

“We will continue to engage with Molendinar Park as it carries out an independent review of its compliance with our regulatory standards of governance and financial management.”

Formed in 1993, Molendinar Park Housing Association provides homes for rent in the Bellgrove, Bridgeton, Castlemilk and Dalmarnock areas of Glasgow.

It also provides low cost home ownership through shared ownership and shared equity.
