Children have received warm coats and jackets this winter – and it’s all thanks to the money raised at the 2018 Kiltwalk.
Coats for Kids was set-up by Erskine-based Louise Chittick and David Ellison, who have made it their mission to provide coats and jackets to children who need them.
Thanks to the Renfrewshire pair’s efforts at last year’s Glasgow Kiltwalk, and a 40% top-up from Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation, a total of £1,000 was raised. This funding boost will help those who need an extra layer during the cold months.
A total of 250 jackets have been provided.
Louise said: “No child should be without a warm jacket during winter. Since launching in 2017, we have worked with social workers to deliver more than 500 coats to children, from babies to 11-year-olds. We’ve had so much great feedback and support from parents and members of the community.
“Taking part in the Kiltwalk was amazing. It has allowed us to help so many more children than we could have hoped. We receive a huge number of requests, and the extra boost from The Hunter Foundation really helps us to make a difference.”
Louise, David will put on their kilts once again for the Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk in Glasgow on 28 April.
Kiltwalk chief executive Paul Cooney said: “This is what Kiltwalk is all about. More than 1,100 charities benefitted from the £5 million raised in 2018. Ensuring children have a warm coat for winter is humbling. A huge well done to Louise, David and the team.
“I’m really pleased they’re taking part again this year and I have no doubt the charity will continue to have a significant impact in the community.”
Registration for 2019 Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk are now open, and events will take place on 28 April in Glasgow, 2 June in Aberdeen, 18 August in Dundee and 15 September in Edinburgh.
