Six months on Jak Trueman's fundraising campaign continues to raise thousands

A fundraising target set by young Jak Trueman before he succumbed to cancer has been smashed six months on from this death.

Sixteeen-year-old Jak died after being told by doctors his cancer was untreatable – but his dying wish was to raise as much cash as possible for charity.

Now six months on, the Team Jak Foundation has raised an incredible £100,000 to help fight the disease with his family saying they will continue to raise as much cash as possible in memory of the tragic teenager.

Jak made headlines when he fulfilled a promise to take his girlfriend Hannah Boyd to his school prom with only days left to live after being diagnosed a rare form of blood cancer called gamma delta T-cell lymphoma.

We think £3million is entirely possible. This is just the start

Jak’s mum Allison said the foundation has ambitious plans to raise millions and to build a purpose built facility – Jak’s Den - to help young people with cancer.

“Reaching £100,000 is fantastic although it is still a drop in the ocean compared to £3 million,” she said. “We think £3m is entirely possible. This is just the start.”

Plans are now in the pipeline to hold a birthday celebration.

His mum explained: "Some people may find it strange that I'm having a birthday celebration for Jak now he's gone.

"Having something to focus on and more importantly honour and remember him and his birthday with, is imperative for me.

"On his birthday we will have balloons all over the house just as we always have done.

"We'll have big balloons shaped like the number 16. We'll have a party and then we'll sing Happy Birthday to him and have cake.

"We will celebrate it and make a big thing of it. Hopefully it will be a really positive day for us all. I'm sure it will be emotional."

She added: "I want to be positive and smile."
