Events in Glasgow and Aberdeen may have been cancelled, but funds will be donated by The Hunter Foundation later this spring
Charities hit by the postponement of a major event have received a much-needed funding boost.
It was announced earlier this week that the 2020 Glasgow Kiltwalk has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Following official advice from the Scottish Government, the event, which was scheduled to take place on 26 April, will be rescheduled for a later date. More than 10,000 people had already signed up to take part and raise millions of pounds for charities.
Kiltwalk organisers The Hunter Foundation have pledged to set a new date for the event as soon as possible, and have also said they will pay out the funds they normally contribute ahead of the event. The foundation tops up all funds raised by 50%.
“We aim to restage the Glasgow Kiltwalk as soon as possible, however that looks like a long time away for charities in need of much support right now,” said Sir Tom Hunter.
“So our number one objective is to raise funds now and get them to those who need it most as quickly as possible.
“So firstly, if you can, please keep registering and fundraising for all of our walks.
“Secondly, please keep registering and fundraising for the Glasgow Kiltwalk and we will add the 50% Hunter Foundation bonus to your fundraising totals as of 31 March and pay the funds out as quickly as we can to your charities.
“Thirdly we will need to postpone our 7 June Aberdeen walk so with the same principle in mind we will add 50% to our Aberdeen walkers’ fundraising as of 7 May – if you can please keep registering and fundraising for Aberdeen and let’s show Scotland our Kiltwalk kindness.
“Hopefully, we can celebrate the Glasgow and Aberdeen Kiltwalks later in the year but in the meantime, your funds will have been deployed to those who need it most at this exceptional time of need.”
