Keegan & Pennykid and cyber insurance specialist Coalition are partnering with the sector body
Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) has announced a new partnership to help members protect their organisations from cyber-attacks.
The partnership with Keegan & Pennykid provides free access to cyber risk management platform, Coalition ControlⓇ, as well as offering education on cyber awareness and cyber insurance advisory services.
SCVO members will be able to set up a Coalition ControlⓇ account at no cost to their organisation and generate a comprehensive cyber risk assessment report that gives an instant real-time view of their cyber risk.
The platform allows users to view their digital risk the same way as a cyber-criminal does. It reveals weaknesses in external facing systems, prioritising the most critical, and shares recommendations for remediating them.
Users benefit from a cyber security checklist, visibility into specific systems that may have been compromised, personalised threat alerts and the ability to view the external-facing security profile of third parties.
Additionally, members will have access to Coalition's security support team to help address areas of concern quickly and confidently.
June Pennykid, Managing Director at Keegan & Pennykid, said: “Voluntary organisations are sadly not exempt from cyber-attacks and criminals can cause significant disruption to services, putting vulnerable communities at risk and potentially exposing the organisation to reputational damage and loss of public trust.
"At Keegan and Pennykid, we are committed to protecting the people and organisations who protect others. That’s why we’re delighted to be partnering with SCVO and Coalition to offer members this safeguarding tool that helps detect, assess, and mitigate cyber risk.”
The non-profit sector is highly vulnerable to digital risk. 2024 cyber claims data gathered by Coalition has shown that funds transfer fraud incidents among non-profit organisations with under £25m revenue have risen in frequency by 63% year-on-year.
Over a third of cyber-attacks on non-profits were attributed to compromises of business emails.
SCVO understands that many of its members have limited, if any, cyber security capabilities in-house and that the impact of a cyber-attack could be crippling – potentially resulting in the loss of essential services.
Anna Fowlie, Chief Executive of SCVO, said: “Cyber-attacks are a growing threat to all of us, whether our organisations are tiny or large, local, or national, charities or community groups. Criminals are indiscriminate.
“It’s important to do everything we can to deal with these things, and hopefully prevent them. I’m pleased that this partnership adds more tools to our box for members to access.”
