Legal profession backs charities as it celebrates success

Strong commitment to social good

Legal professionals have gathered at an awards ceremony to celebrate excellence in law and also to support two charities making a difference in Scotland.

The 22nd annual Scottish Legal Awards organised by KD Media and sponsored by Denovo, held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Glasgow, combined recognition of legal achievement with a strong commitment to social good.

This year’s event raised funds for The LawScot Foundation, which helps students from disadvantaged backgrounds pursue a career in law by providing financial and pastoral support.

And It’s Good 2 Give, a charity dedicated to supporting young cancer patients and their families with practical help and long-term projects, including its flagship Ripple Retreat on the shores of Loch Venachar.

While the evening’s spotlight fell on award winners such as The Right Hon Lord Hodge (Lifetime Achievement Award) and Fraser Oliver of Digby Brown LLP (Business Leadership Award), organisers emphasised that the awards were about more than just professional recognition.

In its official announcement, the judging panel highlighted both the achievements of the winners and the broader purpose of the event:

“The Scottish Legal Awards are about recognising the very best in our profession...but they are also about giving back. By supporting the LawScot Foundation and It’s Good 2 Give, we are investing in the future of our profession and in the wellbeing of Scotland’s young people.”

Adding to the evening’s emphasis on social impact, Ahsan Mustafa, Lawyer at Aberdein Considine LLP and Council Member of the Law Society of Scotland for Glasgow and Strathkelvin, reflected on the charitable side of the awards.

He said: “What makes these awards special is not only the recognition of professional excellence, but the fact that they also provide tangible support to causes that matter deeply to us all. The LawScot Foundation is investing in the next generation of lawyers, and It’s Good 2 Give is offering vital care to families in the hardest of circumstances. The profession can be proud that tonight we are celebrating achievement while giving back to Scotland.”

The combination of professional recognition and charitable fundraising has become a hallmark of the awards, ensuring that the event’s legacy extends beyond the legal community and into Scottish society at large.
