Match funder will double donations

Big Give, the match funding platform, has launched its women and girls match fund campaign.

Starting on 11 October, International Day of the Girl, the campaign will run until 18 October and will seek to support charities committed to serving women and girls across the UK.

The campaign supports charities committed to serving the women and girls in our communities, helping to tackle gender inequality and stop discrimination.

It will see the public’s generosity multiplied, as donations to the participating charities will be doubled by the Big Give’s match funding ‘champions’, typically philanthropists, foundations or companies.

Applications to participate in the campaign are open for charities from now until 23 June.

In 2022, Big Give raised over £2 million in aid of the 121 charities supporting women and girls, receiving 8,439 donations from across the UK. Participating charities included Women’s Aid, which raised £63,510; Bloody Good Period, which raised £58,509; and The Motherhood Plan, which raised £58,145.

Alex Day, managing director of Big Give, said: “Women and girls make up half of the world’s population, yet the charities focused on supporting them often go underfunded. Our campaign aims to provide funding to charities that are at the forefront of the issues facing women and girls, such as domestic abuse, gender inequality in the workplace, and period poverty.”

Big Give is the UK’s most successful match funding platform, raising more than £233 million for over 14,000 different charities in the last 15 years.

Its biggest annual appeal, the Christmas Challenge, raised nearly £29 million in one week in 2022, the highest amount raised since the initiative began.
