Want to know how to create the most amazing Christmas dinner in the world?
Mary’s Meals has teamed up with Michelin starred celebrity chef Tom Kitchin for a unique Christmas fundraising appeal.
Kitchin, famous for his Edinburgh restaurant The Kitchin and various appearances on TV cookery shows, is working with the charity to promote its One More for Christmas campaign.
The chef has launched a website where he appears in a video revealing his ultimate Christmas dinner recipe involves prepping his computer by going to onemoreforchristmas.com and chopping in his details to donate £12.20 to the charity.
Preparing Christmas dinner for the whole family can be daunting and sometimes we forget what this time of year should be all about
Mary’s Meals, a Scottish international aid charity founded in 2002 to feed schoolchildren in Malawi, says the donation will not only feed a child for Christmas, but for an entire school year in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Once you a have made your donation a place setting with your name will then be added to a virtual table alongside Tom’s and hundreds of others.
The image of a plate can also be downloaded to send as an alternative Christmas gift bearing the name of a loved one.
This is the second year the One More For Christmas campaign has run. First launched last year, it raised £47,000. The campaign is created by digital creative agency Whitespace.
Magnus MacFarlane Barrow, founder and chief executive of Mary’s Meals, said: “This is the second year that Whitespace has gifted a Christmas campaign to Mary’s Meals.
“The fact that they’ve built on this to involve Michelin-starred chef, Tom Kitchin, this year – to entice more people to support Mary’s Meals – to feed even more hungry children is just amazing!
“This is fantastic news for Mary’s Meals and another step in introducing us to new supporters to help us feed more impoverished children across the world. I can’t thank Tom and the team at Whitespace enough!”
Tom Kitchin, Scotland’s youngest Michelin starred chef proprietor, said: “As a parent, you can’t imagine not being able to give your children the kind of food that will help them grow and thrive. Yet hunger and malnutrition is still so common for millions of children around the world.
“I’m really proud to be a part of the One More for Christmas campaign this year. Mary’s Meals do an incredible amount of work with children across the world and make a real difference to young people’s lives throughout the year.
“For me, this campaign captures the true meaning of Christmas. Preparing Christmas dinner for the whole family can be daunting and sometimes we forget what this time of year should be all about.
“One More for Christmas makes creating the most amazing Christmas dinner simple – a small donation, and a fraction of the price of a normal festive dinner can feed a hungry child for a whole year.”
