Amar Latif is returning to the kitchen for disability charity Leonard Cheshire

Celebrity Masterchef star Amar Latif is returning to the kitchen to raise funds for disability charity Leonard Cheshire.

Glasgow-born Latif, the show’s first-ever blind contestant, is partnering with Instagram chef Will Hughes (@whatwillycook) for an online cook-along on Saturday 29 August.

Latif, who lost 95% of his sight to retinitis pigmentosa before his 20th birthday, is the founder of travel agency Traveleyes, which specialises in holidays for blind and partially-sighted people.

He has been associated with Leonard Cheshire for over a decade, initially as winner of the Stelios Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs in 2007 and then becoming an ambassador for the charity in 2019.

Latif, who reached the semi-finals of Celebrity Masterchef this year, said: “Leonard Cheshire were a pivotal influence on my business career. I continue to have ‘Actually I Can’ moments and I want to inspire young disabled people to experience them too.

“This is an opportunity to continue my culinary journey while helping to raise awareness and funding of potentially life changing programmes.”

The event is being held in partnership with @mobkitchen over Instagram TV, with a live donation mechanism included in the broadcast.
