Men United v Prostate Cancer are cracking campaigners
A campaign to help improve the lives of the one in eight Scottish men who are affected by prostate cancer has won a 2015 Scottish Charity Award.
Prostate Cancer UK’s Men United v Prostate Cancer: 5 Inequalities, 5 Solutions campaign won the Cracking Campaign award at a ceremony held in Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms on Thursday night.
The campaign, based in Glasgow, has managed to reach thousands of people who have signed up to be part of the Men United movement to help get men’s health back on the agenda in the UK.
At the heart of the campaign is the issue of inequalities faced by men with, and at risk of, prostate cancer with the charity aiming to highlight and eradicate inequalities around awareness, age, ethnicity, address and access to treatments, to ensure that all men diagnosed with prostate cancer in the UK receive the best possible information, treatment and care.
Winning this award is a fully deserved tribute to the efforts of everyone involved in this ongoing campaign
Alistair Haw, campaigns and media manager at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “Men United is our movement to beat prostate cancer and keep friendships alive.
“Winning this award is a fully deserved tribute to the efforts of everyone involved in this ongoing campaign, not least of all the one in eight men who develop the disease, and our inspirational volunteers and Men United supporters who have been so instrumental to our successes so far.”
Organised by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), the Scottish Charity Awards, in their ninth year, bring together several charities and volunteers from across the country to recognise their contribution to life in Scotland.
Other winners on the night included MND Scotland, Beith Community Development Trust and the Scottish Huntington’s Association, with Matthew McVarish crowned Charity Champion.
Shulah Allan, convener of SCVO, said: “This year’s finalists and winners work tirelessly to support vulnerable people in our communities and to raise awareness of important causes. They really have earned this acclaim.”
