Volunteers needed to support essential food deliveries
A charity is appealing for volunteers at its Glasgow warehouse to help vulnerable people during the cost-of-living crisis.
FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland expects to see a dramatic increase in demand for its emergency food deliveries as low-income households struggle to keep up with soaring living costs.
The charity distributes food to organisations working with the most vulnerable people in the community, including homeless hostels, children’s breakfast clubs, refuges and lunch clubs for older people.
Director of operations, Jim Burns, said “As the cost of living crisis deepens, the sad reality is that more and more families across Glasgow and the West of Scotland are facing the agonising choice between eating and heating.
“For people who were already struggling to make ends meet, the latest squeeze on income is particularly painful.
“We’re working harder than ever with charities across the region to guarantee our deliveries go out five days a week, but we are now struggling to keep up with demand.
“We urgently need more volunteers in our warehouse and volunteer van drivers to help ensure that our food continues to reach people’s plates.
