Move to digital returns a huge success for OSCR

OSCR’s shift to digital filing has been a resounding success – with nearly every Scottish charity now filing their information electronically.

Scotland’s charity regulator revealed some 95% of charities are now choosing to submit returns online representing a 14% increase on this time last year and means that OSCR had 3,313 fewer charities sending in paper documents.

The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator said it is now focused on encouraging the remaining 1,215 to sign up for its online system.

Jude Turbyne, head of engagement, said: “This increase is good for charities. It is also great for us because it allows us to be more effective in what we do, and put more resources into areas of work that will really benefit the public and charities.

“The sector is working hard to embrace online systems and this shows that they take their regulation responsibilities seriously. We know that going online can be a bit scary for some charity trustees, but we can help with the start-up process.

“The majority of charities in Scotland are striving to be as effective as possible in making life better for their beneficiaries. Using digital tools is just one of methods they use to achieve this.”

OSCR launched its online portal in 2012.
