Mystery donor means charity can continue supporting homeless

Organisation was facing large outlay for new equipment

A Glasgow charity is delighted after a donation of a van from a kind-hearted member of the public.

The Invisibles, a non-profit organisation commited to helping people dealing with roughsleeping and homelessness was donated a Ford Transit van compliant with the city's low emission zone (LEZ).

This means that the organisation doesn't have to limit which areas they can go to in order to support the homeless.

It comes after the charity recently patrolled the city during Storm Ashley and found 24 people sleeping rough during 80mph gusts and heavy downpours.

Glasgow's LEZ came into force in June last year and aims to reduce the levels of harmful vehicle emissions in the city centre. All vehicles entering the city centre zone area must meet the less-polluting emission standards or face a penalty charge, which is set at an initial rate of £60. The rate will double, however, with each subsequent breach of LEZ rules.

The Invisibles have now thanked a "gentleman" who donated the van, and wishes to remain anonymous, for his generosity.

A spokesperson wrote: "A simple thank you just doesn't seem enough, we now have a van compatible with the city's LEZ legislation.

"The gentleman who supplied the van wishes to remain anonymous, a huge thank you to him and everyone who supports the service we provide."
