A neurodiversity charity has appointed Lynn Wassell as its chief executive after the organisation’s current leader announced plans to retire.

Lynn will join The Donaldson Trust, a charity that supports neurodivergent individuals, encouraging understanding, driving excellent practice and amplifying neurodivergent voices, in March.

She takes up the reins from Laura Watkins, who established the charity as the National Body for Neurodiversity and is stepping down after ten years at its helm.

Sean Duffy, chair of trustees at The Donaldson Trust, said: “We are deeply grateful to Laura for her visionary leadership. Her dedication and passion have driven profound change, and her legacy will continue to inspire us as we build on this solid foundation.

“We are now in a strong position, ready to confidently pursue the next phase of our strategic vision with renewed optimism and we are delighted that Lynn will be leading this. Her experience of working to deliver positive social impact will further enhance opportunities for neurodivergent people.”

Lynn joins the organisation from a consultancy role for The Yard, a charity which supports disabled children, young people and their families.

She was previously chief executive of Clyde Valley Housing Association and prior to that, held other chief executive and non-executive roles in the housing sector delivering for people and communities across Scotland.

Lynn said: “I feel extremely privileged to be joining the team at The Donaldson Trust as their next chief executive, building on the invaluable contribution that Laura has made. The charity has a remarkable history in providing support to children, young people and adults and I look forward to building on that legacy with energy and a clear vision for the future, to grow and extend our support for neurodivergent people and deliver meaningful change.”
